San Giovanni Rotondo

At 60 km from the Holiday there is San Giovanni Rotondo, the town where the remains of Saint Pio lie. In ancient times it was a small village of humble shepherds; with the arrival of a community of Capuchin friars before and, in 1940, with the construction of the hospital wanted by Father Pio “Casa sollievo della Sofferenza” after, San Giovanni Rotondo turns into a pleasant town and today owns one of the most important hospitals in Italy for medical equipment and departments.

In addition to the hospital there is the Convent of the Capuchins, The Last Supper of Santa Chiara, a retirement home, the motor rehabilitation center, the new Modern Opera Cathedral of the famous architect Renzo Piano, where there are the remains of the Holy Father Pio.
